  • Renovating the bathroom area was a big challenge for us. As our home is an old walk-up apartment, there were many limitations in terms of space, and structural beams for the bathroom. In fact, there was originally only 1 WC and shower, while the other cubicle was used as a service yard for the laundry machine. We made a decision to pull out the service yard, and to create another WC in the cubicle instead, as we knew we would be hosting and a dry ‘guest’ bathroom was much needed! We also fell in love with the pink floor tiles when we first viewed this unit, and knew we had to definitely retain it. While it wasn’t in the best of conditions, we loved that it was imperfect and original. It also helps divide the bathroom area too from the rest of the home, with its pop of colour.
  • Apart from the limited space within the bathrooms, another headache was the bathroom sink! We had no space for it and did not want to install a tiny sink inside too. Our contractor came up with a brilliant idea of pulling the sink out instead as a dry vanity area, and having a fully concrete hexagonal sink! Hexagonal, so that there wouldn’t be any sharp edges for people passing by the hallway, and concrete to complement our industrial-style walls.
  • A little cheeky reminder we designed as a sticker, to be careful when using the sink!
  • For the bathroom area, we had track lights installed, along with this wall-mounted original ship lamp (which in itself is enough to illuminate the area!)
  • We chose matte terracotta and cream coloured tiles for our bathroom as we were inspired by Aesop and their beautiful, natural storefronts that felt very restful. Our shower was kept very simple.
  • Here’s a peek at our dry bathroom. We kept decor minimal to just a small open shelf, where we could put a reed diffuser, a small plant, and an artwork we designed!

  • We love that we were able to retain some original features of the apartment, such as the windows and the floor tiles. The windows are original textured glass, with steel grilles that we painted black.
  • Lastly, here's our backdoor with its original grille gates. It leads to a spiral staircase that we share with other residents in the building. The staircase leads up to an open rooftop space, which was also a big plus for us!
