  • Welcome to our service yard! We kept it simple by having not much renovation done here, as we felt the original HDB tiles, doors, windows, slope were acceptable and of durable and good quality. Hence everything else we got were off the shelf, prioritizing functionality, cleanliness, organization and then lastly aesthetics. So we tried to keep everything white here to avoid looking cluttered as the many different items can seem to "blend into the background walls". We installed service yard glass windows, in order to close the windows in case it rains. It also keeps it well ventilated for the laundry and kitchen area, and to highlight the best view of the house. :D
  • On the right side we have placed our Robo vacuum mop (we call it Dobby affectionately) - Dreame L10s, but it's not connected to the water system as we didn't want to extend piping across the yard, and the other side was blocked by the door so there wasn't room to put Dobby. We scoured high and low for the right organization for this, because (1) we wanted to have a countertop with some shelves for storage, (2) getting then right height and depth and length was important to the tiny space
  • Hence we customized & designed this rack for the main purposes: 1) Depth not protruding the service yard wall so that it remains invisible at the kitchen side 2) Height to be as flushed to the service yard wall as much as possible. Cannot be higher as Steigen extends its length out fully wall to wall (see below picture) and so we will not put any higher shelves/storage. 3) Width to be sufficient to insert our Dustbin Trolley (this is extremely useful, as we dont need to bend our backs for throwing trash anymore), & potentially recycling bin/a high chair for us to enjoy the view here! 4) We customized the dimensions also according to the sintered stone cut outs that we already had remaining from our kitchen countertops - so that they can rest here perfectly. Main intention to design this was also to reuse our great quality sintered stone cutouts that we have leftover! :D 5) We can then use this counter top for folding laundry, putting stuff from the kitchen that is hot / wet.
  • Enough clearance is required, as you can see, to change out the dirty and clean water tanks of Dobby. This is perfect clearance for ergonomic chores!
  • Laundry basket that fits perfectly even with the service yard door open.
  • On the other side of the service yard, we have our washer, laundry basket, clothes hangers, laundry bags, mop/dustpan. Similarly, we don't intend to build more top shelves/storage as we will need to make space for our frequently used Steigen laundry rack to extend fully.
  • As you can see, with Steigen fully extended and fully lowered, we simply cannot put any shelves/storage in the top half of the service yard at all. Steigen can even be lowered even further below the countertop. It has been very helpful for us, though there is still the chore of taking clothes out and hanging it on the rack.
  • Easter Egg: We also have Disney elements here - all our laundry bags and clothes pegs are Disney. :D Makes chores a little less boring don't you think? We got these clothes pegs from Daiso - we will only use White clothes pegs for the whole colour consistency. :D
