  • Welcome back to the Space of L! Today, we’re diving into the dining area. In designing our home, we wanted to maximize the living space to suit our lifestyle. We feel that balconies in Singapore are often under-utilized, so we decided to convert ours into a functional dining area.
  • We selected a minimalist yet elegant round dining table from the Italian brand Pedrali. It serves as the focal point of the space. Its clean lines and timeless design perfectly complement our modern aesthetic. The accompanying chairs from &Tradition are a mix of comfort and style as well, complimenting the style of the dining table and the overall black aesthetics of our interior design. Above the dining table, we installed a statement lighting fixture from Flos that adds a touch of sophistication. The warm, ambient light creates a cozy atmosphere - making it one of our favourite areas in our home. To make the area feel less outdoorsy and more like a cohesive part of our home, we chose a rug from IKEA with neutral tone under the dining table. It not only defines the space but also adds a layer of texture and comfort.
  • Next to our dining table, we have a bright blue display shelf from IKEA. This playful addition is perfect for displaying our collection of collectibles. The pop of color really adds a touch of whimsy and personality to the space. The display shelf provides some practical storage for the area. It houses our Nespresso machine, making it convenient to grab a quick coffee whenever needed. To enhance the ambiance when we’re entertaining, we have a sleek speaker from Transparent on the shelf. Our guests absolutely love the Panda from Mado by Paper Collective! From certain angles, it almost looks as if the Panda is peeking out shyly from behind the plants.
  • And of course, we needed our trusty Ziptrack from MC2 so that we can utilize the balcony space more effectively. It allows us to enclose the area as needed, especially when we are entertaining. Our default configuration is for the Ziptrack to be lowered to the half-way point - this allows for sufficient light and cross ventilation.
  • Do you recognise the plant standing tall in the background? It is our Fortune Plant from The Nursery Singapore. It energises the space - making it feel like our own little oasis in this urban jungle. The translucent rock next to the Fortune Plant creates a warm glow in the right light, resembling the hearth of our home.
  • Our apartment is on a mid-floor level, which affords us an unblocked city view. You can probably just about make out the roofs of the neighbouring school and the various areas of the Delta Sports Complex. We are truly blessed to have this lovely view. My partner particularly enjoys sipping his morning coffee here while enjoying this view - and it really helps to jump-start our day. Needless to say, this incredible view is always a delightful backdrop to our meals. Curious to know how we seat more guests - let us know in the comments and we will share more about our foldable origami chairs!
