  • Welcome to our kitchen! This is the area where we spent most of our time at and probably the favourite part of our house as well. As described in our previous post, we have hacked the previous level 1 study room to expand the kitchen and to accommodate a kitchen island. Unlike the standard 1.2-1.3m island bar height, we went for 950mm instead as we intend on using the island as a prep area for cooking/baking etc. As it is a pretty long island, we went for recessed power tracks from Nexen installed at both ends for easier access. We wanted this island to not only serve as a place for hosting friends and families but also a place to work and study as well hence we went for a minimalist look pendant light with cooler light settings. Chose a sintered stone as our countertop because of its heat and stain resistant properties. Went for a light marbled pattern as we like how it adds a pop of colour in contrast to our dark laminates
  • We have always loved a open kitchen concept but as we have a senior dog (and planning to have more pets in the future), we decided to add on a sliding door for their safety. This also helps to reduce smoke and odour from spreading to our living room during heavy cooking. Initially we thought that the glass panels may be hard for us to push due to its heavy weight. Our ids thus suggested the idea of synchronised sliding door and now we only have to use minimal effort to open and close the doors as and when we need to! Only downside of adding sliding door is that there are too many glass panels to clean :P but we love how sleek it looks!
  • Here we have our pantry area where we installed our water dispenser and coffee machine. Below we installed multiple drawers to maximise storage (mostly snacks :p) and also catered space for a wine chiller. Chose the same laminates and countertop as our kitchen to match the theme.
  • View from the other side of our kitchen. Decided to install 2 corner fans to increase ventilation in the kitchen. We were pleasantly surprised by how the corner fans are enough to keep us cool yet not too strong to be able to extinguish the flames while cooking.
  • Reason why we were concern about our flames extinguishing was because we went for the less popular option of a gas hob instead of induction. Though we are not heavy cookers, we elected for the less popular option of installing gas stoves as this is something that we are used to cooking with when we were living with our parents and somehow we feel that the heating and temperature is more consistent when cooking with a gas stove? Anyone feels this way too? :P We opted for Fujioh hob and hood not only because of how minimalistic it looks but also it comes with a motion sensor function that allows us to adjust the suction strength without touching the buttons directly during cooking.
  • Last but not least, we love our condiments rack where we have easy access to condiments during cooking. Love that it is soft closing as well. That's all for this week post! Hope you all enjoy reading and we will see you in the next one! (:
