Our Simple Entryway with No Built-Ins

Welcome to our home! The first thing you'll notice is our vintage-inspired gate. We replaced the original HDB gate and main door with this retro design that beautifully complements our mid-century home. While most people tend to choose black for their gates, we opted for the prettiest shade of cream that pairs perfectly with our door laminate. 
Gazing through the entrance, you’ll catch a glimpse of our cosy living room and our dog, who loves to look out the gate. Weirdly, we are located at a corner and there's really nothing much for him to see. Like many others, we installed a digital door lock, making leaving and coming home a breeze—no more fumbling for keys! The best part is that we got it at a great bundle deal with our gate and fire-rated door. 
Our entryway is pretty simple. We don’t have any built-ins for shoe storage or to conceal the bomb shelter door. This is mainly because we wanted to avoid making our entryway feel tight, especially since our dining area is right next to it. Some may not like the idea of having the dining space adjacent to the entrance but due to the constraints of our home layout, we decided to go with this arrangement. It allows us to make the most of our space while maintaining functionality, as our dining bench also doubles as a seat for putting on or taking off shoes. 
To create a seamless look for our entryway without built-ins, we painted the bomb shelter the same colour as the surrounding walls. We also replaced the double door panel of our DB box with a single piece and selected a laminate that matches the wall colours. Since the DB box cabinet is too shallow for shoe storage, we got a rattan shoe cabinet that complements our mid-century home theme.
