  • Hello everyone! At Beaconstrips, we understand the importance of creating a home you're proud of. However, we also recognize that achieving this dream home requires both financial investment and time. With a budget of approximately $40,000 for renovations and $20,000 for appliances, we employed several cost-saving strategies that we're excited to share with you.
  • 1) Embrace Thriftiness in Furniture Selection In our quest to furnish our home affordably, we turned to thrift stores for some of our key pieces. Take, for example, our standout orange light, a focal point in our living area. We stumbled upon it on Carousell, listed at $150. With a little negotiation prowess, we managed to snag it for $100. This unique piece not only adds character to our home but also demonstrates the value of exploring second-hand options. Similarly, our dining table, a nod to retro aesthetics, was another thrift find on Carousell, priced at around $200. Its vintage charm perfectly complements our overall home aesthetic, proving that great style doesn't have to come with a hefty price tag.
  • 2) Strategic Use of Built-in Carpentry While built-in carpentry can elevate the look of a space, it often comes with a hefty price tag. To keep costs in check, we strategically assessed where built-in solutions were truly necessary. For instance, instead of opting for custom-built wardrobes in our bedroom and study room, we opted for a customised IKEA wardrobe solution. Not only did this decision save us money, but it also offered practical storage solutions without compromising on style. Additionally, we invested in furniture pieces with built-in storage features, such as our bed and sofa. These multipurpose pieces not only serve their primary functions but also provide additional space to stow away miscellaneous items, helping us maintain a clutter-free home.
  • 3) Take Your Time Furnishing Your Home As new homeowners, we've experienced the temptation to rush through the renovation process, eager to see our vision come to life. However, we've come to realise that a home is more than just a project to be completed—it's a dynamic space that evolves along with its occupants. Instead of aiming for perfection from the outset, we've adopted a phased approach to furnishing our home. For instance, one of our priorities was cat-proofing our living space to ensure the safety and well-being of our furry companions. Additionally, we're planning to install a digital lock for added security and convenience. Ultimately, we encourage fellow homeowners to trust the process and resist the urge to rush. Take the time to live and breathe in your space, discover how it functions best for you, and infuse it with your unique personality and style. After all, a home isn't just a place to live—it's a reflection of who you are and the journey you're on. In conclusion, embarking on a renovation journey doesn't have to break the bank. Remember, with a little creativity and resourcefulness, you can transform your space into a reflection of your personal style without compromising on your budget.
