  • The biggest pain we had in our previous home - our two sneaky beagles that constantly stealing our food on our dining table! So when we get our new place, we made the painful decision of not having a dining table! Instead, we created a 1.8m long island that doubles up as our dining table. We are pleased to announce that no food has been stolen since then. Having a direct view to the luscious trees right next to our kitchen made it the perfect spot for our little family to gather around for breakfast!
  • When we were designing this area, we built it to counter our sneaky beagles! We made our beagles jump and measured their jump height before designing the height of our island and counter. We also love that the stove is just opposite our dining area, making it convenient and easy to serve the food (reduce the risk of food dropping on the floor).
  • To cater to our love for steamboat, we also added sockets by the island table. At times, when we want a change in view when we work from home, we would shift our workstation to the island. So the power sockets also come in handy. We also created a little nook to house our small yet functional wine chiller. This allows us to save some floor space, and perfectly concealing our not so healthy relationship with wine. We also host big groups of friends and families very often, so we had to have enough seats around our island. To solve this problem, we customised this island-dining tall bench from Taobao. It's acrylic legs also help to make the space looks less cluttered.
