  • When we viewed this house, we were attracted by the wide space it has for the living and dining area. This was something our first home, a BTO did not have. Our previous home's living room was small (regular BTO size), and the dining area in our BTO could only fit a 1.4m table. It was a tight squeeze whenever we have friends and family come over but somehow we always managed. Moving on to our second home, one of the things on our wish list was to find a house with enough space to seat all our guests comfortably. So when we viewed this house and the wide living and dining space with good natural lighting (a bonus!), we somehow knew this was to be our next home. I love how the wide space could fit this 1.8m dining table from Castlery and 4 chairs. We also bring out our extra stools when we have friends come over and this table could seat up to 10 persons.
  • To be consistent with the white and wood theme of the house, we chose this natural Carrara marble top dining table from Castlery with greyish beige fabric chairs. We were told by Castlery that we were not able to choose the marble top, so this purchase was pretty much a "blind box" purchase, and I think we were really lucky to get a marble slab that had lighter and more soothing veins than the dark and strong veined one which we saw in the showroom.
  • Just one clean and simple painting hangs behind our dining table. We decided not to clutter this wall with decor items/shelves so that our guests can stretch out and don't have to worry about knocking into items on the shelves or hitting their heads on the shelves when they get up (drunk).
  • On the other side of the room, we got this small oak side shelf from FortyTwo to put our candle warmer, some dried flowers and the bottom shelf is storage space for our dog's grooming tools, magazines and books. On top of the shelf is a customised calligraphy piece of our names by our friend Joanne from the Letter J Supply. Next to this space is the fluted glass panels which separates our kitchen from the rest of the house. We chose to install fluted glass because it can blur out the mess in the kitchen and yet allow light into the kitchen. This shall be a sharing for another day.
  • Some believers in fengshui will say that such layout with the living and dining in one space is not good because then the sofa will not be placed against the wall, and hence the owners will not have any 靠山 (no strong backing in life). But fengshui beliefs aside, we love this layout because we can now watch TV while we eat breakfast, lunch, dinner or even while WFH (shhh!).
