  • We have minimal lights in the bedroom. They are spot lighting and does not illuminate the entire master bedroom of 5.1m by 3m. Our primary ask of the bedroom is to have a seamless headboard with bedside lights and sockets for phone charging. Secondary ask is a dark room with possibly textured wall paint or wallpaper. The headboard design, material and colour selection process has been challenging. As these are the only works required, the discussion time and thoughts put in is little compared to the renovation needed in other parts of the house. There were debates on a half headboard or full headboard design. Cost was a big consideration and we decided to go for half headboard with LED strip lighting. On materials selection of the headboard, we have eliminated marble and wood alike materials. As fluted panels are in trend, it became a top choice. Next come the colour selection. I wanted a green tone such as moss green, sea green and you can see my designers thinking of possible tactful replies on my selection. Because I was also looking at jungle green wall paper, they were concerned it was over the top. We settled for black in the end where it is the easiest to match if we choose textured paint wall or wall paper for the blank walls.
  • Other than the LED strip light at the top of the half headboard feature, there is the bedside lights at each side of the bed. It is sufficient to see the time and to give minimal illumination to the direction of the bathroom without waking up the other human and the dogs. We have a small ledge at each side of the bed to allow us to charge our phones while we are sleeping. As I did not get my green hue in the bedroom, the designer put in the Moss laminate from Lamitak on the ledge and make the corners curved to soften the look.
  • To complement the black fluted headboard, we go for a simple black fan and black faux leather divan bed resting on the floor. I prefer an elevated bedframe so it does not allow dust collection. However, we make a mistake with the calculations and the original 6inch legs of the bedframe plus the mattress is too high. The ideal height of the legs has to be 2inches which I am still trying to source in the market. Fans - also another debatable topic. Fengshui says fan above the bed is not good. What is good? It is a personal choice to go with a ceiling fan above the bed. As we wanted minimal lights, the fan serves to circulate air in the room only. As there are no other neighbours in front of our unit, we opt for the night curtains only so the space needed for the curtain pelmet is lesser.
  • The wardrobe is floor to ceiling so there are ample storage space for bulky winter clothings and blankets. However, the hanging space is not sufficient for both of us. :P We opt for black roller blinds for the window here. The curtains arrangement s not perfect as a little bit of light could still stream in at the sides. However, there is limited options due to the design of the wardrobe and the 2 panels window.
