  • Welcome to light tour with @__madeofpebbles! In the early stage of our reno, we knew we had to plan ahead for the electrical points. It is a balance to strike for sufficient points for lighting and the cost impact it carries. So we did have a plan instead of dependant on our ID. We knew no one will care more than our home, than ourselves.
  • Lighting are often overlooked, but it is a big deal for us and we do not regret any of these. Tips for the newly reno friends: 1. Consider the purpose of the space Spaces thats requires high focus like, study and kitchen are mainly driven with 4K lighting, while everywhere else is below 3K. It will then be complemented with other lights. 2. Consider the type of light coverage and design function Some light designs like spot light and downlight are very narrow and concentrated in coverage, meaning we may need for lights than we think is we want to have a fully bright space. This is also critical when we are planning for lights with ceiling fans and this distance may create shadow when its turned on. 3. Consider layering lights at different heights to create cosy environment The best way to create a cosy space is layering the lights. Floor lamp for standing height, table lamps for stead and wall lamps for eye levels. These create depth in the home besides using the light temperature. Good example is our living room in the photo above, using just ambient lightings.
  • Some still must haves are: big lights with magnetic track lights gives a neater finish to the ceiling in our living room. The adjustable track lights are also a pretty spot light to have to light up the house. We also appreciated the slim finish it has.
  • One example on additional light to counter for shadow is the LED light for under the half-shelves to provide additional lighting when cooking or prepping. This is also based on our past experience than big lights in the kitchen is simply not enough because we are often back facing our task light from the ceiling.
  • Another example of ambient lighting with layering tip, is our rice pendant light in our bedroom. Large and diffused gives a focal point and cosy for winding down before bed. We enjoy these plannings a lot just as planning ahead gives us a peace of mind today! Happy light planning!
