  • Being a family with school going kids, the study room is designed mainly for them to have a conducive environment to concentrate on their studies. i wanted to keep the kids' bedroom as a place to sleep and relax and decided to make one room just for studying. Also i remember myself trying to study in my bedroom and always dozing off on my bed in the end! Also with their own bedroom, they tend to want to be in their own bedroom most of the time so having a joint study room, they get to interact with their siblings when studying together. This also makes monitoring their studies easier as I get all of them in one room instead of running back and forth their bedrooms. see the green chair in the middle thats where i usually sit to supervise.
  • Before-- We took the smallest room in the house to be the study room. We did not build any in built carpentry in this room as this room would eventually be my toddler son's bedroom in the future. We painted the room a whitish colour so that the room would be brighter and more conducive for studying. Learning from our previous house's reno regrets, we made sure to install a ceiling fan. In the previous house, we did not install a fan and had to on air con whenever they needed to study. we also switched the parquet out for vinyl flooring for all the rooms including the study room. The grilles were changed to invisible grilles eventually so that it does not look like a jail cell hehe
  • As the room is small, i had to rack my brains on how to fit two study tables into it. in the end, i decided to order a 2m study table to fit at one side on the room so that each kid has their own designated table and also for us to know who made the mess... paired with some simple plastic chairs so that they would not be too comfortable and not focus.
  • the 2m table can also fit the 3rd kid so that he can feel included.
  • However, he has his own small study table on the other side of the room so that he does not disturb his siblings. Next to his table, we bought a cabinet from Ikea to place our printer, files and other ad hoc stuff for a neater look. best thing about this cabinet is that we can use its side as a magnetic board for his magnet toys.
  • the ikea cabinet is a great addition to the study room.It being metal makes it sturdy and the shelves are adjustable to cater to different heights. love that it comes in a beige colour so that it fits perfectly in our study room.
  • i also bought peg boards for each kid so that they can display their knick knacks and an organiser to put their stationery for a neater look on the table.
  • the pegboard also works as a stand so that they can look at their homework when copying with ease.
  • but even though they have their study tables, they like to use the ledge in their room to play their computer games or use it as a sitting area to read their books.
  • When i say that the study room is mainly for the kids, it is really for the kids as the husband usually sits at the dining table to work when he works from home.
  • sometimes when he is tired of sitting, he would stand at our masterbedroom ledge to work when he is working from home so that he can enjoy the view during his tele conferences. There you go, a realistic post with unfiltered pictures about our study room for our kids! It's messy but shows that the kids are using the study for the right reasons.
