  • This was the first draft of the sketch up that our IDs sent to us. We wanted a dark theme and our ids suggested adding dark wood to the kitchen which we thought was a nice touch. We opted for chimney hood in the beginning as we didn't think it made sense to have too much top hung carpentry as it is space which is rarely used and not easily accessible.
  • This was the finalised draft where we decided to swap from our initial idea of having open shelves back to top hung carpentry. We found a slim hood that we really like, so we had no choice but to either have top hung, or weird looking kitchen. We chose to install the top hung carpentry instead. An additional benefit is that it is easier to clean in the future compared to open shelves where dust accumulates more easily. One thing we love about our kitchen is the pantry area at the side where we will be able to make coffee/tea in the morning. The drawers below also allows for more storage space for snacks and other little knick knacks. We also thought it was a suitable area to place the wine chiller there too.
  • The dry island in the middle was a non-negotiable for the missus, and also the key highlight of the kitchen. Practically, it would (in our mind) be the place where we drink our coffee in the morning, and a place to prepare our meal in the evening/weekends. Aesthetically, it is the main feature of our house, as it would be the first thing that we see when we first enter our home. We wanted to ensure that the island is always seen, while having the option to close off the kitchen when cooking to prevent pets from coming in, and to prevent the smell/oil/cooking stuff from getting out to the rest of the house. With that in mind, we splurged on a glass sliding door. And that is our kitchen design! Hope you enjoy reading this post and we will be posting more sketch ups of different areas of our house in the future so stay tuned! (:
