  • In this post, we’re diving into the details of our "throne room"—where everyone handles their "big business". We spent a few months visiting various showrooms across Singapore, deciding how much budget to allocate. Ultimately, we decided to explore Taobao for our fittings while relying on trusted local brands for the throne and basin. A little over a year in, with regular monthly maintenance of both toilets, we've had no issues with peeling so far (knock on wood). For the design, we chose matte white fittings in our common bathroom and sleek gunmetal fittings in the master bathroom. When it came to the throne itself, we were particular about noise levels during flushing and ease of cleaning. We opted for the Magnum 918S, which boasts the highly recommended "Geberit Flushing System," rimless edge, and tornado flushing—features that have made a big difference in both function and convenience in cleaning.
  • We quickly realized that having different modes in the shower—such as rain or spray—was essential for a more versatile experience. The added bidet spray has also been incredibly useful for quick cleaning of the shower area. To ensure better quality, we made all our purchases from TMall sellers. We wanted to avoid cheaper options that might be prone to rust and cause issues down the line.
  • We had heard that matte white fittings could peel easily, but ours have performed remarkably well over the past year. For our bathrooms, we opted for large 600mm x 600mm tiles. The reduced grout lines make cleaning easier, and the larger tiles create a sense of spaciousness, giving the bathroom a sleek, hotel-like vibe.
  • With regular maintenance, scrubbing off accumulated watermarks and limescale helps prevent surface damage to our fittings and extends their lifespan.
  • Even the toilet roll holder was an important choice for us. We wanted a design that included a convenient spot to place our mobile phones, along with an aesthetically pleasing arm to hold the roll in place and prevent excess toilet paper from unrolling.
  • Having a rack to hang your towel and place your clothes is essential. Keeping everything within reach ensures you won’t drip water across the bathroom, making your routine more convenient and keeping the space tidy.
  • For the shower screen, we opted for a design featuring half glass and half niche. Our decision was influenced by concerns about glass shattering—something we’ve noticed happens more frequently with full glass panels. Additionally, the niche provides a convenient spot to store our shower gels and shampoos.
  • Even in our bathrooms, we made sure to incorporate a curve in the design to create a sense of cohesion with the rest of the house, which looks both good and also serves its purpose of keeping the water in.
  • If we had to choose the most important feature of our bathrooms, it would be the exhaust fans. They've been essential in keeping our bathrooms clean and dry. Say goodbye to musty, wet air and smelly towels! Our exhaust fans dry the bathrooms in just a few hours, preventing mold buildup and maintaining fresh, pleasant air. We chose KDK fans for their exceptional reliability, and with numerous contractors available for replacements if needed, we’re confident in our choice. We hope our insights inspire you with some best practices in bathroom design planning!
