  • Welcome to the only bedroom in the house. We transformed the other room in our 3-room flat into our living room/studio, which we covered in our last post, leaving us with the master bedroom.
  • One of the prerequisites when we were house hunting was to have an ensuite bathroom; something many older houses lack. K is particular with sleep quality and believes that a longer walk to the bathroom will affect the ability to fall back asleep afterward. (Read to the end for tips on how to improve your sleep quality) To achieve this, we carved out a smaller-than-usual door for our ensuite.
  • We were very blessed with the sun facings of this house as we have the sun rising from the room and kitchen direction. This helps the clothes dry fast and also helps us wake up feeling refreshed. By evening, the room cools down, just in time for bed.
  • Having a small house means there is little to no space for luxuries like a walk-in wardrobe or vanity. We got creative by repurposing the aircon condenser board up into a vanity table and display area. K’s minimal skincare and makeup routines make this setup ideal for her.
  • Storage is essential, so we designed floor-to-ceiling wardrobes with custom measurements. Behind the door, we built a special passage for our two fur babies—a little mouse hole that gives them access between the study nook and bedroom, avoiding door-clawing incidents.
  • The mouse hole facade is a door that opens for easy tunnel cleaning. We even added a mini handmade noren on a suspension pole to keep the aircon cool in at night!
  • Tips on improving sleep quality: Aircon: This is to maintain a constant and consistent comfortable temperature more than to sleep in a cold environment. Darkness: Try to make the room as dark as you can achieve. Distractions: Minimise activities when you wake up through the night. DO NOT use your phone, take a glass of water, open the fridge, etc. *Disclaimer: We are not sleep experts or medical professionals. These are merely personal observations and methods that work for us. Let us know if you'd like to know more and we'll do a more in-depth post about this!
