  • Yes, you saw the heading right. Our home gym never started out as a home gym immediately. We were previously renting and decided to move into our home mid-reno even before our kitchen carpentry started. So, naturally, we had to create a makeshift kitchen in our common bedroom. Here, I'll take you through the evolution of my home gym to be what it is today. It's a wild and rough one, but so worth it in the end.
  • My home is a 4 room flat. So, this is the 2nd common bedroom just right beside our master bedroom. As we hacked our 3rd bedroom, naturally, we only had this room to put most of our stuff. This room was a plain white box basically. Our white wall era is done. So, we knew we wanted to paint our home in a more warmer tone.
  • This was after painting the room. We also painted the ceilings as well which I feel like it completes the room a lot more. Now, this room is at least a cosy and warm box 😝 Fun fact, we also painted the same for the rest of our home. By using the same paint colour, it helped to create a more cohesive mood and definitely saved us from decision fatigue.
  • This was the beginning of our home kitchen. We got an induction cooker that can heat up any types of pots and pans. Eventually, we did add a microwave oven which helped with heating our food up.
  • And then one day, I decided I have had enough of working on a camping table. So, I built a makeshift office in this room as well. So, now, this served as a kitchen, dining area and an office. It was a mess and quite chaotic, but we made it through. I'll be honest though, we didn't cook as much because we hated having to wash our dishes in the common toilet.
  • After our renovation was finally over and things had settled down, this room remained empty-ish for the most part as the kitchen now exists in the actual kitchen and the office moved to our hacked bedroom. This somehow became the cat room for a while when we just adopted our first cat. As she was still a kitten, we kept her in this room when we were sleeping and released her during the day while we were still observing her behaviour. And we did the same thing when our second cat was adopted. It was a cat room for quite a while as we used the room for when they both got sterilised. And then briefly, it became a guest room for a short period of time when we both travelled abroad and had my brother and SIL stay over to look after our cats. We got an inflatable bed and pillows for that 😝 After both of them were able to free roam in the home without supervision, this room was kept empty with just our minimal workout equipment. Then I knew it was time to have my gym.
  • Alas, after all of that, we finally have a gym at home. I used to find my home too big after moving in from a 250sqft studio loft, but after seeing how I was able to compartmentalize different rooms for different activities, it made sense for us as a couple to be living in a 4 room bto.
  • Our home gym is really modest with only basic equipment, but we are content that we are able to do so much in this tiny room.
  • Overall, it truly is humbling to be able to see the progress of just this room alone and the entire journey of it all. May this room remain to be a productive gym room. Though I don't think I'm planning to move anything here for a long time until we need this room for other purposes which I hope we never will need.
