  • Welcome to the soul of our home, where bickering, love, and delicious meals blend together in a kaleidoscope of color. This vibrant kitchen is designed to bring the whole family together, fostering connection. This is the place where my boys lay on the floor, as toddlers, while waiting with anticipation for the cookies to be done in the oven.
  • The space is characterized by its bright white base, crisp and clean, providing a perfect canvas for the orange and green accents that bring the room to life. The colorful cabinets help to create a playful and whimsical atmosphere. The counter top is filled with appliances that we use often. The rest are hidden within the cabinets.
  • Two unconventional choices we made were to use a wooden cutting board as well as a water filter jug in the kitchen. We also opted to keep the original HDB Kitchen tiles and pasted tiles stickers to keep in line with the overall colour scheme of the space.
  • We chose a 2 hobs stove because my parents have a 4 hobs stove at their place and they are always underutilized. No regrets so far after 13 years. We recently started kombucha brewing and the IKEA Vardagen glass jar makes the process more enjoyable with a capacity large enough for the whole family and a tap for easy transfer into jars for second fermentation.
  • As a family of 4, it is paramount for everyone to keep track of each other's schedule and a whiteboard calendar in the kitchen works well. The mirrors in front of the sink open up the space even more and help us to observe the happenings in the living area.
  • A bouquet of Lego blooms add a whimsical touch to the sink area. The side of the fridge becomes a canvas for family photos and mementos.
  • The indispensable trio which consists of the automatic soap dispenser, mechanical timer as well as the towel holder makes cooking with kids less stressful and more manageable.
  • At the other side of the kitchen resides a mini island, home to the hot water dispenser, the microwave, cups organiser as well as the charging station of our home. Our aim is for our boys to be self sufficient at a young age so this island also houses the utensils which are within their reach. Setting the dining table is part of their daily contribution as part of the family :) This concludes the tour of our kid friendly vibrant kitchen. Follow us as we continue to share parts of our rustic nordic home in future posts.
