  • We are A+K from Qurated Haus and we are here to share our love for home décor, home styling and anything home related. When we collected our keys back in Dec 2020, we were excited to move in as quickly as possible. We could do that because during the flat selection process, we opted for the Optional Component Scheme (OCS) which means that even if we were on a little budget, our flat is in a move-in condition. So basically, we had floor finishes, doors, bathroom fittings already installed by HDB. Of course, this comes with a price. However, this may not be for everyone especially if you have a preferred aesthetic. Luckily for us, the modern designs from these HDB fittings, matches with our simple home aesthetic.
  • We also opted for an open kitchen layout. The reason for this, it may be cheaper to pay for carpentry than to hack the kitchen wall. As first time homeowners, being on budget is very important for us, that is the reason we thought about all these things even before we selected our flat.
  • Having said that, we went through a few elimination process selecting IDs and going through very expensive quotes. But all these “challenges” led us to the right contractor who did up our dream kitchen within our budget.
  • We did a lot of research on what we needed for the house as we have set budgets and kept track of every single purchase. Since we are first time homeowners, everything starts from scratch and everything is so expensive.. hahaha! I remember driving around Singapore to visit furniture and lighting warehouses, Courts, Ikea and AudioHouse months before news of key collection. It became like a family excursion. Haha! Doing this, gave us time to decide on buying some things online and some things in store. Things such as the fridge, cooker hob, hood and oven were purchased 3 months earlier from AudioHouse because their moving out sale was too good to be true at that time! Haha!
  • One tip is to look out for things on sale. Do the research and read the reviews. It helps! Some other purchases that we bought months prior to key collection were our kitchen sink and tap, track lights and lightings for the toilets and service yard.
  • You may ask, why did we purchase this way before getting our keys. You see, we do not want to spend thousands of dollars in lighting alone and then get bored with it so for now we settled for track lights and ceiling fan lights for a straightforward, no BS approach to lighting...haha!
  • Our track lights @kazelighting and ceiling fan @crestarfans were from a local supplier so we kind of visited the warehouse even though we could just purchase it online and get it delivered!
  • We truly enjoyed the research, decision making and buying processes. Through it all, creating a cosy home is not so simple but with the help of communities like this, we can gain inspiration, tips and even stay on budget. Do join us to see how we turn our house into our dream home in the next upcoming posts. See ya!
