  • Welcome back to the virtual tour in Haus of Jely. Let’s take a more in-depth look into our dining space in this post! The dining area situates in the heart of house, where we shared many great meals and laughter with friends and family.
  • View from another angle.
  • Typically for executive maisonette, the proposed dining space is planned right at the entrance. However we wanted to build lots of storage for our large shoes collection as we are a growing family of 4. We also did not like the idea of eating right where we kept our shoes at. Furthermore, having lots of built in carpentry means there will be a reduction of size of the area. Factoring in the partition wall and allowance for opened cabinet door, there is not much space left to fit in a decent sized dining table & chairs.
  • After much considerations, we eventually settled on placing our dining area in the middle of the house, where it sits between the living space and kitchen. Originally there was a wall right here segregating the kitchen space, we knocked it down to make the kitchen into an open-concept one. Having the dining area here visually separates our living and kitchen space.
  • Our meow-del Loky showcasing the living space behind it.
  • Our 1.6m marble table definitely not the largest, but it’s a very useful size. Sits 4 to 5 pax spaciously daily, but can fit up to 7 pax when hosting (can be up to 8 but we lean 1 side against the wall). Since it’s not too large, it does not take up too much space. It allows us to have more living space to us to utilise while being super flexible with it’s function. We have this table for more than 6 years now! It’s is from our previously home and we are still absolutely in love with it. Having a great quality furniture definitely helps to save in the long run.
  • The dark, warm tone of the marble complement the rest of the house nicely. By creating contrast, it gives off a sense of importance to the space as well. We love its natural grains and colour that can fit into both our homes effortlessly!
  • One feature we always highly recommend is choosing a dining table with a central support. This design prevents the inconvenience of table legs getting in the way, allowing you to fit more people around the table comfortably without anyone having to sit awkwardly around a leg.
  • We searched high and low for the perfect dining chairs. Shopping locally meant spending a lot of time traveling from store to store, which was challenging and tiring, especially with two young children. When we couldn’t find what we were looking for, we turned to Taobao. Having shopped on Taobao for over 15 years, we knew we could find anything there. Quickly, we found a design we loved with great quality and an excellent price.
  • That being said, our pendant lights are also from Taobao! We love their curved, organic shape, defined lines, and color. Pendant lights are essential for providing optimal illumination and enhancing aesthetic appeal.
  • Faux orchids we got from Malaysia! They look and feel super realistic!
  • Everyone should have an electrical outlet in their dining area! Imagine having a hot pot meal with family, a BBQ session with friends, or even charging your laptop while using the dining table as a makeshift desk. Forget about long, unsightly, and hazardous extension cords. An electrical outlet in this spot will definitely be handy! We installed a universal one! So no problem using products from another country.
  • At the entrance of our kitchen, right beside the dining table, we have a small dry pantry stocked with snacks for both humans and our feline friends—everyone’s favorite cupboard! The top features an open shelf, a rare sight in our home, used exclusively for decor displays. Currently, it showcases tea cups we made in a pottery class. We also installed a lamp above it for mood lighting. The backsplash is adorned with scallop tiles in various patterns, adding visual interest without worrying about dirty grout, as this area is used only as a dry pantry.
  • On the bottom is a closed cabinet topped with the same quartz counter top as the rest of the kitchen to maintain a seamless look. Corner is curved to prevent accidental knocking as this is a high traffic area.
  • Do you like our dining space like Loky? As you can see by the number of times of his appearance on the table, it’s his absolute favourite spot to chill! Stay tune for more sharing of other spots in our house!
