  • Hello and welcome to the kitchen tour with @__madeofpebbles Meme jokes aside, our kitchen is an oblong galley version where it is connected to the service yard as well as the bomb shelter on the other end. The kitchen is also one of the room which we have a clear vision of wants and not. From our experience in renting other spaces, we learnt that top shelves are often under-utilized and we want to avoid spending carpentry on it because it also feels bulky and heavy, which is why we opted for half shelves.
  • We know this is unpopular, but we decidedly spend on a more powerful chimney and frequent cleaning to keep it clean and oil-free. We also used small format tiles as the backsplash. A display rack good enough for drinks, mugs that we made from our ceramics class, and other posters.
  • In the early part of the carpentry design stage, we knew off the bat that we wanted a lot more drawers and because we want to keep the counter top free for mise en place (food preparation), we opted to have open drawers for the rice cookers and other appliances. It saves out counter top space against our galley kitchen.
  • We also have a rack dedicated for spices. We have it backed against in a niche to avoid too much sun exposure. From our experience, keeping herbs and spices in drawers always end up with lesser usage - because out of sight, out of mind that led to spoilage or wastage. We figured the best way is to keep it out and visible to remind ourselves we have these ingredients available for use.
  • The main feature about our kitchen stainless steel counter top is the integrated sink, which means no over/ under sink conflict and concern about the sealant getting mould from water contact all the time. Stainless steel counter top do has it downsides, which is scratches and stain. It requires a perpetual cleaning habit and ignorance for the scratches on the surface, else everything else about stainless steel is our top choice for kitchen counter top. This counter top is customised from a local steel vendor- BareMetal. We also customised the size and design of the sink!
  • We absolutely love our kitchen. The idea was to keep it simple and functional, slight Japanese customary as a habitual building and mid-century outdoor tilings for design. Very demure, very mindful. Our home made pottery which we have for our own daily dining and also for decorations.
