  • Judging by how often we post about this space on IG, it’s clear the living room is our favourite space at home. We have 0 built-ins, and tapped on our creativity to furnish and style the space. A tip would be to try and get your furniture from the same shop. In our case, it’s Scanteak. This ensures that the wood shade and grain match, and you won’t encounter a situation where the differing wood shades appear very jarring. Of course if you have great visualisation skills (which I don’t, lol), then go ahead and mix and match wood shades! Another tip - cosy up your home with plants! They really help to soften the look and feel of your home. No green fingers? Then fake plants are the way to go 😉
  • We had some empty space at the corner of our living room, so we placed a bench there (cut from the same wood slab as our dining table!), which is very useful whenever we need to wear our shoes or tie or shoelaces. We also wanted a pop of colour at home to contrast with the predominantly grey theme, so we placed two Bearbricks for a splash of fun. Oh, and that egg belonged to the kitchen. But I thought it’d complement our colourful corner!
  • We searched high and low for a nice stand to place our remote controllers. Contemplated getting a wood slab from Taobao, but was worried that the wood wasn’t treated properly/come with cracks/bugs etc. Tip - Due to our humid weather, wood that isn’t treated properly may lead to mould etc. So it’s safer to invest in a good slab of wood from a reliable source, for peace of mind. We wouldn’t really recommend the place we got ours from as we had quite a few issues with it. Also - wood always softens the look of a home! So it’s nice to incorporate woody elements at home. And the great thing about wood? They’re evergreen - they never go out of style!
  • Our controllers have a home!
  • If you like to incorporate quirky and cute pieces at home but don’t know how or where to place them at home, then consider purchasing vase/pots/lamps for decor purposes. Functional and cute at the same time. Taobao’s a great place to start, but you risk having the same decor as the 100000 other homes out there 😂 Ideally we would love to collect such pieces from our trips for our items to hold more meaning, but we don’t travel often, so it’s Taobao for us for now…
  • I’d say that plants and wood REALLY go so well together, and will highly recommend filling up the empty spaces on your TV console with some plants and a reed diffuser!
  • Another tip would be to get paintings/framed quotes to place around the house. It helps hide messy cables (in our case, sockets), jazzes up a boring space and serves as a good conversation starter too!
  • This is the view from our kitchen. We love how everything is complementary. That being said, this space is always a work-in-progress, and the aesthetics will definitely evolve over time. Final tip - cushions REALLY help enhance the cosiness of your living room. Experiment with different materials/textures and even clashing colours! It’s one of the few areas at home where you have the opportunity to unleash your creativity and have some fun!
