What We Do When We Don’t Exactly Have An Entryway

  • We don’t really have a proper entryway, as we didn’t think we’d need one prior to renovating but on hindsight, it is perhaps one of the most neglected essential areas of a home. Upon entering our home, to the right of our main door is a four door cabinet. Sadly, or rather not so sadly for the Mister, it does not all contains shoes. Only half of it is storage for our shoes. The other half has our DB box and is shallower due to the wall difference, and can’t fit our shoes. Instead we store umbrellas there for now. As a result, we have a rather small bench, which is also quite a distance from our main door and we hardly wear shoes there anyway. Under the bench is the perfect spot for our robot vacuum and a crate for easy access to our reusable shopping bags. Our initial plan was to wallpaper these walls to cover the bomb shelter beside this shoe settee, as we opted to save some carpentry costs by forsaking the feature wall to conceal the bomb shelter. However, not sure if we should still do it as we already have a fluted sliding door that helps to hide the bomb shelter from the main view of the home.
  • Sliding fluted door helps covers and hides bomb shelter.
  • Another “downside” of not having proper entryway is not having a place to put the grab and go items. We also still can’t bear to drill any holes onto our walls to have some hooks or a shelf above the shoe settee area. Hence, we place this dish at the top of our half TV wall storage for the Mister to keep his essential day to day items.
  • We also decided to get a standing mirror for quick outfit checks before leaving home, but there was limited places where we could put it. Beside the sofa is where it is for now, but perhaps we can hang it behind the main door to get a more complete outfit check after we wear our shoes.
