  • Introduction: Our HDB was marketed as a “premium” flat, possibly due to its strategic location. Hence, there were several features that already came along with it, which we’ll elaborate more on later. We’ll share on the reasons why we decided to stick to some of these features, but did away with the others. First up, our HDB front door. Ok I don’t have a photo of the original HDB door but I’ve to say it wasn’t ugly. It was two-toned and brown. But I wanted a white door to “brighten and enlarge” the house. 🤭 So we engaged Plareno for their door wrap/laminate service! Love how white it looks. We got to change the look of the front door without really changing it per se.
  • Floor tiles. Our HDB came with two types of floor tiles - one is this large white tiles which almost everyone we knew of decided to change out to other flooring options, eg. vinyl. But we opted to stick with these tiles in order to save $ [to splurge on other things 🤭] and we also thought that these tiles were easier to maintain and clean since they are large.
  • The other type of floor tiles was this timber flooring, which we also decided to keep for all 3 bedrooms. We thought they were pretty nice and it would be such a pity to change them? So money saved again 😆
  • Kitchen/dining room. As you can see, the kitchen originally comes with a wall and it is really dark inside. To open it up and for a bright and airy vibe, we opted to hack this wall for an open concept kitchen.
  • This is how the wall looks like from the inside of the kitchen. Hacking away this wall was one of the best decisions, as our kitchen is really bright and airy now and it has always been our dream to have an open kitchen :)
  • Originally, there was also bifold windows and doors that separated the service yard from the kitchen. In order to extend the kitchen for more countertop space and open up the kitchen to allow light to enter, we decided to hack away these bifold windows and doors as well. This way , our kitchen was extended.
  • Another great decision! The pipes unfortunately cannot be removed, so our ID decided to conceal them with closed cabinets.
  • The kitchen was the place where we did the most overhaul, as we decided to change out the HDB kitchen tiles for vinyl flooring to match our farmhouse kitchen theme. This beautiful warm vinyl selection is from FloorXpert.
  • Our bedroom doors, similar to front door, looked decent as well but due to my aforementioned preference for white doors, we engaged Siong Door and replaced all our two toned brown bedroom doors with white ones.
  • HDB eco friendly WCs , anyone? Hahaha this was one of the items that were definitely a no-go. After researching on the system, we found that it wasn’t as water-saving as it made itself out to be 🫢 Besides, having a tap on top of the toilet bowl wasn’t our kinda aesthetics too hahaha.
  • So we replaced it with Rigel’s one-piece, tornado flush, rimless toilet bowls instead. No regrets, and yes we would highly recommend getting a toilet bowl with these features!
